Silence is golden; future of PC Halo? (long)

In Response To: Re: Crux (and Matt), you infer I will be ignored?! (Matt)

I'm concerned/crazy about the PC version, just like y'all. But while I'm frustrated that Bungie is tightlipped, I'm also glad. No one wants another Daikatana. No one wants a ton of hype and overcommunication about a product that is most likely many months (or years) from release.

Bungie is most likely extremely busy on Halo 2 right now. Makes sense, right? Halo is the Xbox system seller and nothing else on the Xbox release horizon is all that compelling, unique, or exclusive. MS needs Halo 2--needs it for the Xbox's very survival. So that's what Bungie is working on.

And that's fine with me. More Halo is a *good* thing, no matter the platform. Sure, I'd prefer PC Halo (or PC Halo 2). But I'm happy to settle for more Xbox Halo, and I'm happy to wait for news on PC Halo until Bungie is good and ready (and able) to talk.

Theory and speculation:
The PC division of Sony Entertainment is working on a massively multiplayer sci-fi fps. Hmmmmm... what other game (made by a rival of Sony) would make a terrific PC massively multiplayer sci-fi fps? In other words, I doubt that Bungie's PC Halo will be very similar in core gameplay to Xbox Halo.

MS is well aware of the $$$ to be found in massively mutliplayer games. Asheron's Call is doing well, but EverQuest and Dark Age of Camelot are far better and more successful. MS has failed to create the #1 massively multiplayer fantasy game, but the #1 spot for massively multiplayer sci-fi game is up for grabs. The competition is Anarchy Online (an RPG, not a FPS), Tribes 2 (not really massively multiplayer), an old and boring game called 10six, and... well, not much else. Sony's racing to market with their online shooter, and I bet MS is thinking about throwing their golden Halo brand into that arena.

So, that's why I think that even though (as one poster already noted) PC Halo was nearly completed, Bungie still has a long way to go before PC Halo can be worked on or even announced. Bungie is working on Halo 2 for Xbox, and PC Halo is back on the drawing board--as a MMOFPS.

: We are. Every day.

: I've said this before, on more than one occasion: I won't do a PC Halo Update
: until I can say something interesting. If you ever thought some of the old
: Halo Updates were a little stingy with info, imagine how you'd feel
: reading "We had some more meetings this week, and we're still looking
: into the video card thing" every Friday. When the time comes when I
: can say something, I will.

: You have to understand: this is a major project, not something we can crap
: out in six weeks. There are many questions that still don't have answers
: yet. We're farther along than we used to be, but we're well shy of the
: point where we feel comfortable talking about what PC Halo will be. So we
: keep quiet because at least that way we don't say anything we regret
: later.

: I know it's difficult, but try to avoid reading too much into our current
: silence on the subject, and ignore the bigmouths and pundits who pronounce
: PC Halo dead "because Microsoft will never let it happen."
: Because despite our sometimes unnerving silence, and all the hostile
: rumors generated by people who don't like us, we're still working on this
: game . But it's not as quick and easy a process as we, or you, would like.
