Well that assumption is coming from the fact that all of the first person footage shown has that new scoring system. And I would think that in the first ever revealed footage of Halo 4's multiplayer, they would use the scoring system that they were planning on using in the final game instead of just changing around a bunch of things just to mess with us. It's just that if it were only in one of the shots, then I would pass it off as a non-standard gametype, but the fact that it is in all of the footage that is shown, leads me to believe that this would be a standard scoring system. I wouldn't think that 343 would already be at this stage of production and have no idea how people will get points. The medals that people get also add to that score, so it seems a lot deeper than just (Let every kill go up by 10 points). It seems like it is a feature that is much more integrated into the game than just simply changing the way scoring works. And finally, these trailers are edited in a very specific way. Each shot is picked for a reason and they meticulously look over every frame to make sure that they are not giving too much info away. That shot with the medals popping up on screen is there for a reason (IMO) and I also believe that the scoring system is also there for a reason. To tease without giving too much away. It may be an insight into the way that 343 is dealing with the progression system. If the above paragraphs comes across as me being an ass, please don't take it that way lol. I understand your side of the argument and I could be 100% wrong, but you are correct, I am only assuming.
