If : you think Bungie would have opted for the simple styles of the original : Halo if they could go for more detailed designs, then you're fooling : yourself. If you look at Reach, in the Package, where we get to glimpse some Forerunner structures underneath Sword Base, the styles are pretty simple and clean - perfectly keeping the style of Bungie's Forerunner landscapes since Halo CE. And this is with a modern graphic engine - in fact, the same graphics engine Anniversary is using. Even in Halo 3, though the Ark did indeed have more complicated Forerunner designs in many of its structures, especially in the interiors, the rebuilt Alpha Halo had all the same elements of simple and clean Forerunner asthetic that was present in Halo CE, but advanced with better textures and lighting.
