In Response To: 6 most Ominous trends in video games (Sl'askia) : Halo is mentioned in #3. : http://www.cracked.com/blog/the-6-most-ominous-trends-in-video-games/ Th only problem I have with this line of thought, other than the fact that it's a Cracked article, is that the author discounts every method that can be seen as money grubbing as money grubbing. Sequels? Damn Pigs! Downloadable Arcade Titles? How dare they insult my wallet! DLC? Their Evil knows no bounds! I think the same con he listed in downloadable titles and market, is a pro toward the creative banruptcy problem. There are plenty of original properties being made in the digital market, and they cost much less than huge retail games. I can't wait for Trenched to come out this summer (surprising how many games Doublefine has put out this year alone.) and it'll probably be no bigger than $15. Where I'll wait an eternity for sequels that never come, because they couldn't justify the budget. DLC is the same way, why wait another 2-3 years, or maybe forever for another Red Dead game, when you can put out a few more smaller experiences for those who want them. Hey look, I want new original titles as much as everybody else, but I'm under the school of thought, that there are just too many games coming out (and they usually meet a not shitty standard, thanks 2000s) for me to even experience the top rated games every year. I suppose competetition is a good thing for quality, but when the market is oversaturated to a point even the competitors will make deals so they don't have to compete with everyone. Just some thoughts.
