In Response To: Re: The Flying Brick Brigade. (Bry) : That goes back to the PoA in Halo 1 and at this point, FoR has very much : become the anomaly. : As real terms go, saying "Artificial gravity" refers to creating : gravity through means such as centrifugal force, hence the rotating : sections. : If we were to look at some kind of machine that actually negates or generates
This is incorrect. The general term used in the SF field - as confirmed in my personal conversations with luminaries like Vernor Vinge, Joe Haldeman, so on - for ANY technology used to artificially induce gravity is 'artificial gravity'. It does not apply specifically to rotating sections. : Er, basically, some form of gravity manipulation that allows people to stand
This would in fact be more confusing as anti-gravity is specifically taken to mean CONTRA-gravity, i.e. the generation of lift by a means gravitic rather than aerodynamic. If you used 'antigravity' in the context you're talking about people would be terribly confused, because it is the wrong term. FoR used the correct term, artificial gravity.
