I've seen : so many people say that the ship isn't rated for atmosphere, but I can't : recall seeing that mentioned anywhere from an official source. : Have people come to this conclusion because she has to crash land on Halo? : The ship was damaged then... both from the fight over Reach and the : ensuing battle above the installation. Many decks had vented atmosphere : due to hull breaches (TFOR, p322). It was always my impression that the : ship was shot down. Either way, perhaps the ship is designed to be able to : leave a planet's atmosphere, but not re-enter it? I don't know a lot about : space travel, but isn't the former less strenuous for a ship than the : latter? It has been mentioned, but only fleetingly. Most UNSC ships are constructed in space, because that's ultimately where they need to be, too. I recall it being easier to construct everything in space, because there's no real gravity well to interfere with construction. That's why most ships aren't rated for atmosphere, either. Gravity and pressure could, I presume, tear them apart.
