I am not great. I am average. I always go for the head, and have found that rhythm is very important. Make sure you don't shoot too quickly - especially once the shields have popped.

Also, be as opportunistic as possile. Getting the drop on someone means massively increased likelihood of success.

Also, team shooting, team shooting, team shooting. Hear someone banging away on a bad guy with a pistol (or anything, really)? Lob a couple of shots at that same enemy. It works wonders, both for you and your teammate.

To be honest, I'm a coward. I almost always avoid 1:1 encounters, which often come down to bad-ass precision skillz. Which I don't have. :)
