While I wouldn't say I'm perfectly happy, the main thing is that if you can accept that the canon is flexible in nature (even if that is a bit of a contradiction) you can enjoy it more for what it is, rather than what you think it should be or isn't. Its what's keeping me generally happy with the Halo universe where so many are becoming... hmmm, I suppose disillusioned is one way of putting it. Or just generally losing interest by feeling there isn't a solid enough base of consistency. In a way though, Halo isn't doing so badly when you look at some of the other huge VG universes. I mean, try looking into Final Fantasy VII canon and you've got a hell of a ride given there is so much less material. Even though its only really divided amongst a PSOne game, a PS2 game, a PSP game, a mobile phone game, a movie and an anime short, there are no less than 4 different depictions of the key events that took place in the Nibelheim Mako reactor 5 years before the events of the main game. And incredibly the original PSone version, with its super deformed low polygon field characters is probably still the most dramatic and well composed version. I'm revisiting that universe I'm still quite fond of at the moment, having gotten a PSP with Crisis Core for Christmas, which has prompted me to get the PC version of the original game back up and running (with a bunch of difficulty and graphical mods of course).
