I'm pretty sure : going forward you'll see positive results of their watch on the franchise, : particularly with canon discrepancies. : Also, while no further post Halo : Reach titles have been announced or : confirmed, it is no secret that 343/Microsoft is in the process of : recruiting staff and beginning to lay the initial technical ground work : for future Halo titles. Future Halo titles are indeed expected, just a way : down a long road. : That and the possibility of Halo Wars 2 next year. ;) Don't get me too wrong, I mean I'm mainly being reactionary after reading the last two books, I'm not really that torn about the whole thing as I'm not really into Halo anymore (I was like 15 when the first game came out, though, and pretty much played it all day back then, so I do like to revist the nostalgia by reading the books even if I'm not really into FPS games anymore). That being said, the original game and "those days" have a special place in my heart or whatever, and I just kinda feel like a grumpy old man about how things have gone. I remember back in the day when any tiny little interview or comment about Halo's story would cause an eruption of activity on the story page or on forums... That's how crazy good Halo's story was. But around the time ilovebees played out (which I actually enjoyed more than Halo 2's story even if it isn't canon), it seems like there was kind of a flood of Halo story, and most of it not top-round quality let's say, at least in comparison to what was presented with the announcement trailer and the E3 presentation, so what I see today is that all these new things they put out on Waypoint and the short story collection don't have anything CLOSE to the fanfare that earlier Halo fiction did. I mean, The Flood was just the story of the first game which everyone had already played, but even that was hugely popular and disected. I didn't even KNOW The Cole Protocol existed until I got it for Xmas (and apparently it had been out for awhile!) And then there's just general reactions to Halo news that are very telling. There's a video out there of the E3 presentation of Halo 2 (a live recording, not the playthrough without an audience version) and people were just like flipping out about the game to a ridiculous degree. The announcement of ODST, Reach, Halo Wars, even Halo 3 have been kind of "meh" in comparison. As for the 343 business... I find the whole thing to be cringe-worth corporate whoring of the franchise. In the short while it's existed, they've managed to cause even more insanity in the Halo-verse (Elites sounding like Scooby Doo villains, Dr. Halsey being a teenaged hottie, Spartans flying on some crazy fighter/motorcycle hybrids... jeez.
