Sorry, but I always get frustrated at people who think that the beginning of Halo 2 nullifies the events of First Strike. Halo is a big universe with lots of stories. There's gonna be some space between some stories somewhere, and this is one of them. Who's to say Chief didn't get picked up by an ONI prowler and dropped off at Humanity's last stand at Earth, where he'd be needed most? Or maybe something else happened. Who knows how he got there?

I always hate trying to justify weapon discrepancies like this in my head. I always have to tell myself 'it's for gameplay reasons'. But introducing a weapon in a book like you stated is pretty glaring. Perhaps it was just to show where the weapon came from? Also, if I ever ask myself why none of these really awesome and cool weapons, like the Splaser or Battle Rifle or Silenced SMG weren't in Chief's super-awesome-kidnap-the-prophet-mission, I remember that it was generally regarded as a suicide mission, and they probably weren't given the best equipment, especially considering the UNSC is stretched stupidly thin.

The Flood definitely doesn't get the love it deserves.

I'm actually a little worried about Halo, as a whole. Maybe it's becoming too commercialized. Is Reach the last Halo game or will 343 continue producing games?
