I think what we have here is a failure to communicate . . . I understand what you are saying, and agree, but I don't think you are talking about the same thing. What is being said is that, as has been the case sense H2, if claims are to be believed, is that it takes time for the player to build momentum. In your 100m sprint analogy, sure, they go from a stand still to running with no transition. However, it takes a few strides before they build their momentum, before they are at full speed. In the game, this will also be the case. Push the the control stick all the way forward, and it will take a few strides before you are at your full speed. To compensate for this, the animations also have to be changed to match the speed, and they have done so as smoothly as possible. That's how I understood it, anyway.
