Which is why I think a prudent move, after the decision to fire the : Array had been made, but before the Array had actually been fired, would : have been to destroy all extant Flood specimens kept for testing, in full : knowledge that 1) it was likely they would escape eventually, and 2) there : was no guarantee of the Reclaimers or any other reseeded species being : able to continue such testing and research without allowing the Flood to : escape. A risk, weighed against the eventuality that some other extragalactic limb of the Flood would return or that Reclaimers could stumble over dormant Infection Forms missed by the post-Pulse cleanup. Keeping the samples made sense to me, and keeping them on the Rings also made sense assuming that "tactical Pulses" were possible; the problem I have is the inadequate labeling/warning of the hazard on the Rings, though there is always the problem of communicating with aliens over 100 000 years later. : Of course, it doesn't help when things like Origins SHOWS the array pulse : scraping Flood growths off Forerunner ships, it negates years of : discussions about the distinctions between "killing potential : hosts" and just "killing Flood". We already knew that the Pulse disabled Mendicant Bias's Flood-controlled fleet; Origins doesn't contradict that. We're back to debating what's meant by the term "Flood" in regards to the Pulse's effect... the Terminals and now Origins imply that higher Flood forms are destroyed, but say nothing about how Infection Forms respond. -- Steve's wondering if that difference gets addressed in Part II.
