The first sixteenth portion of your post made me think if perhaps a multiplier similar to the skulls could be instated. It would work sort of backwards, in that everyone would start their multiplayer career with the same multiplier, but as they quit, that multiplier would go down. That would actually make it rewarding not to quit - in a roundabout way. Also, perhaps something could be added to detect what/how the player is doing at the time of a quit. If a player is boosting and doing that %@$&ing annoying thing where they gain a huge lead then quit, the experience multiplier would drop even further than usual, thus making their climb back up even harder.
