Myth was good because it did away with the idea of resources altogether. What was left was only troop management, and that worked because Myth was slower paced, and because the control was so smooth and natural. Myth was good, but not as good as Starcraft in terms of depth (on the multiplayer end. Myth was significantly more complex and better than Starcraft on the single player side of things.) However, in games like Starcraft, the decision about when to manage your army, and when to manage your production and resources is one of the hardest choices in gaming. When you build your production facilities, when you expand, and what build you choose is absolutely critical in determining whether you win. In myth, you win because you had better army control. In Starcraft, you win when you choose the right build and timing, find the right balance between army and resource management, time and direct your attacks correctly, etc. So yes, Myth was a good multiplayer game, but Starcraft is a better multiplayer game, because it has so much more depth and nuance. There is a reason why play is still evolving after ELEVEN years of professional competition. So really, Halo Wars looks to be in the middle between the Myth philosophy and the Starcraft philosophy. One philosophy creates good single player experiences, the other good multiplayer experiences. Going in the middle won't do anything but give you decency at both.
