probably an accident or it was just more convenient. Honestly, if they had said "brown dwarf" many geek alarms would have been raised not to mention thousands of fans wouldn't know what the hell a "brown dwarf" is nor care to look it up and then write a superlong run-on sentence about it as I'm doing now
