Maybe the enforcer's projectile has its damage type set to "life drain". One would think that the damage types are just names to give effect on aliens' weakness/resistance, however, they're not. Some of them, like life drain for instance, has some hardcoded function, that makes it impossible to kill the player. I don't know if this is true, but the title lifedrain does too indicate on more functions, like the aliens getting the players drained life. It's pretty logical though you can't drain any life from 0 life, and by the fact that the player won't die before he reaches negative life, it's also logical he can't die.
