In Response To: Re: Eternally Bored - and bugged (Adam Ashwell)

: Steve, if you DO beat it, and get to Level 8 (my level), before you do
: anything, save on the pattern buffer behind you. The map turned out ALOT
: harder than I had intended, because I had overlooked the fact that you
: could start out with a low amount of health, and you have to fight two
: groups of fighters, troopers, and a hunter, and a group of compilers,
: before you get to a 2x recharger. This was my first map ever for a
: scenario, so I didn't really know to look out for these things. Because of
: this, my map is devilishly hard. I've never even playerd it on TC, and I
: think my bro managed to beat it on major damage, but that might've been
: the testing version where there was a 2x canister in the beginning. I
: apologize for this.

Adam - this one isn't your fault - Forrest needs to fix the previous level so that the player has time to recharge shields before starting level 8. For the interim, I played Moontanning on Kindergarten so that I could beat it and have some shields left. After the talk about your ambush being one of the hardest ever - I'm pleased to report that I have played many that are more difficult. Not that yours is easy and it did take several tries, but I eventually survived it with a loss of about 3/4 shielding on TC - not bad overall. The fact that there is a pattern buffer at the entry point makes this acceptable. The key of course is to kill the first enforcer and save your game before triggering the other monsters. The second ambush is readily if not elegantly beaten by an activate and retreat approach. The closing door makes it possible to admit only one monster at a time, making it possible to take them out without any loss of shielding, even on TC. The room full of compilers is a cinch for someone with vidmaster skills - fist only with no loss of shielding. All-in-all, so long as you arrive with at least 1X shielding and preferably more, you can beat this on TC.

I'm just getting started on the second area of your map, but I must say that I am very impressed with it - most excellent for a first effort. Not to denegrate any of Forrest's work, but what I've seen so far is much more Marathon-like than any level I've encountered thus far. I'll have more comments when I finish it.
