In Response To: Re: Eternally Bored - and bugged (Steve Levinson)

: The poly trick would also short-change the player if they decided to tank up
: on oxygen and shields before going to that room. This is a very common
: trick that advanced mapmakers use, but I'm not a mapmaker and someone else
: should probably take this on. The obvious suggestion would be to use two
: timers - both activated by the first switch but each deactivated by only
: one set of wires. You should be able to set either timer to switch the
: terminals if time expires, so the result would be as desired. Like it or
: not, however, you're still probably going to have to increase the time to
: allow for play on TC. If it seems too easy on Normal, well, it probably
: means your playing doesn't suck any more ;^)

I can set this up I think. Am I correct that the timer is platform that will crush civilians (or at least aliens set to civilians), and by doing so it will trigger the map's winning condition "rescue" to failure.

This is how I'd set it up:

First, crusher platform.
Give it the right speed, values, and make sure to set it to "initially activated".

Connect a second platfrom to the crusher platform.

Deactives: Never
+ deactivates adjancent platform.

give it a tag number: 1-15

And for your wires, give them both the same tag number.

Now why is this working? Let me explain. Your crusher platfrom will start to move down at the miserable bobs. The only way to save them is to stop the platform. Our hero, the marine, finds 2 wires at different locations. The first one he smash will activate the platfrom right beside the crusher platfrom, giving no effect. When the player hits the second wires he'll deactivate the same platform. This trigger the function, "deactivate adjacent platform", which will deactivate the crusher platfrom and save the bobs.

The longest time you can achive with this technique is: (with forge, mb you can alter it with chisel)

18 wu / 0.033 wu/s = 9 minutes

I'm pretty sure there are ways to make this time longer. I have never made a map like this before so this was the sollution I came up with right now.
