This has always been my interpretation as well. I likewise took the end-screen of Infinity, presumable written by Durandal-Thoth, as not being written from the perspective of them being trapped in the dying universe and never escaping like Durandal dreamed of, but rather as being written from the perspective of them living already free from the confines of time and space. No physical being could still be around "in the quantum moment before the closure" to have any thoughts; the whole universe would have long since been a sea of super-stellar plasma by then. So it must have been written by someone watching those events from the outside.

(You'll note that of course I ran with this kind of interpretation in Eternal as well, with a speaker who never concretely identifies themselves to you but is obviously meant to be Durandal-Thoth speaking to you in dream levels as you time travel, guiding you through the branching timelines until your inevitable reunion in proper reality past the end).
