: Was this version of A1 publically released? I've heard it mentioned before
: but I seem to have missed it if it was. While my Beige G3 does support
: OpenGL, it doesn't support A1's OpenGL, so software rendering for that
: stuff would be swell.
Actually, it's the graphics card on the Beige G3 that doesn't fully support OpenGL, even though all the software libraries are present. This was true for even the top-of-the-line Beige G3 model, which I was fortunate to have at my job, even though it was the first Mac that came with a separate graphics card installed. If you would like to play the existing version of AO on your Beige G3, you should be able to do so by upgrading your hardware. All you need is a slightly newer PCI graphics card that is already supported by Mac OS - it doesn't have to be a high-end model - one of the older ATI cards will work just fine and can be had for next to nothing. If you max out your Beige G3's RAM and upgrade your video card, you will be able to play anything - just don't expect to use the larger high-res textures with such a slow machine.
That said, if you would like to download and use the B&B version of AO, you can download it from http://aleph.inio.org/. Note that with this version, any high-res textures need to be added to the shapes file - they cannot be implemented in MML as with the newer versions of AO. The necessary shaps patch for Infinity is on the referenced website. If you actually want to create content for this engine, check out this tutorial. There is also a link to Carlos on the Run here. One important caveat - there is a slight variance in the dimensions in the B&B build and in a few scenarios, particularly in Marathon Fell, there may be spots where the marine can't fit through doorways etc.
