In the "Conversations from the : Universe" pamphlet, which IS offiacial canon, a conversation between : elites references the destruction of Reach[pg. 6, paragraph 6] AND the : fact they don't know where the Human homeworld is[pg. 6, paragraph 3]. : Sorry! :D And the fleet was massing at the Unyielding Hierophant because they intended to hit Earth, so the Covenant knew of it's location prior to Halo 2 anyway.
