In Response To: Re: My thoughts, probably wrong! (protexts)

: Well, protocal does not mean: "determine every action" of the
: construct concerned. Actions are just ways of completing rather specific
: ends not specific actions. Ask yourself, "Why does he try to kill the
: Reclaimer?" Because the Reclaimer isn't doing his job! It seems
: highly plausible that the first protocol rule is to activate Halo if the
: flood get out. The reclaimer's life is a secondary issue since the
: reclaimer is a means to an end. As far as teleporting goes, what does that
: have to do with free-will and protocol? That he has powerful means of
: transportation does not equate to powerful means of controlling his
: actions.

: Based on what? He was built by Forerunner. He's a construct, a complex
: program, and his code, written by Forerunner, is inside him, is him.

: The only thing I see stopping 343 Guilty Spark is the fact

: You're forgetting he has internal constraints not just physical external
: ones. He's a program designed to carry out a range of finite functions:
: monitor the flood, make repairs, locate the reclaimer, activiate the
: halos, etc. If he has a place in Halo 2, I would bet on him continuing
: along those protocal lines with the next Halos. But that depends on a lot
: of "ifs."

Remember the conversation he has with the MC?

"Last time, you asked me, if it was my choice, would I do it? Having considerable time to ponder your query, my answer has not changed."

I think the fact that quilty spark was pondering over this implies that he has quite a bit of free will.
