No, this is antialiasing.

Yes one can definitely be certain. Polygons are calculated by the geometry of the mesh. Not the bump map. If your mesh has say 60 polygons and you slap a very extreme bump map on it, it will still only be 60 polygons.

Of course rendering speed will take a major hit because it will take more processing time to deal with the increased shadows due to the texture.

: Personally, I want to see the effect of bumpmapping with a 3D revelator.

I posted about this a little higher on the board. You won't see much more with 3D glasses.
