IMO Gruntspeak is something that I think bungie has probably tried to explain, fictionally, since it has such a presence in the game. As for the master cheif's grenade growing huge for the Maw cutscene... I don't know if the bungie folks would attempt to explain that as anything other than entertainment.
...Maybe the MC keeps a big grenade around somewhere... You never see what his head looks like when he takes off his helmet....
