*** THE HUMANS BUILT HALO ***
Now before you start to analize just what exactly I've been smoking, hear me out.
My thoughts are based on what 343GS says.
In the last level when he short circuits Cortana's attempt to self destruct the ship, pay close attention to what he is saying...
He shows his disgust at her attempts to destroy "the lost links to _our_ past". This is in reference to your ship and technology which he is going do something like "really enjoy taking his time in cataloging" it or something or another.
Damn, I wish I had it hooked up to a vcr to record it.
Anyway, this coupled with other threads talking about the time travel stuff, is starting to make me really think that this might be the case.
Somehow, long ago, us humans used our incredible technology to travel back in time to build the Halos that try and contain the Flood. Somehow, the flood must wipe us out in the far future, and we go back in time to analyze and eliminate The Flood.(Think "The Terminator" movie) We use the Halo system to try and contain the Flood, but it failed in the past and we had to activate the Halo system, which pretty much wiped out everything including most of us.
The Covies have learned of this somehow, and are desparatly trying to wipe us out in order to prevent us from making this same mistake over again in our "Current Future." They have access to the reminants of the older technology somehow have figured this out. We don't realize what we are going to do because we are stuck in our continual time travel loop, because we don't know about "Our Past."
The Covies are actually trying to save The Universe, and Humanity is actually "The Bad Guys" that don't know it yet, but doomed to destroy everything...
This scenario would make sence of the 343GS conversations. There are too many threads to post here, but doing a quick search would bring them up.
I think the "Humanity conquors insumountable odds to find out that it is its own worst enemy in the end" fits nicely into a Bungie-esque theme, don't you?
