In Response To: Let's Talk Halo 4 (Cody Miller) I've bumped H4's campaign down to my least-favorite Halo campaign of all time -- OF ALL TIME! "We have to start up/shut down X. To start up/shut down X we have to activate/destroy three nearby power nodules manually" x 10 = Halo 4's campaign It really is a drag. The multiplayer is a mixed bag for me. I'm really happy with the changes they've made to the core mechanics. Increased speed, jump height, and removal of bloom. My strength has always been plain vanilla "Rooty Tooty Point and Shooty" gunplay, and I'm having more fun now that I'm killing more and dying less. But, in 343i's quest for a more "focused" multiplayer experience, they've reduced the capacity for... I dunno, "awesome" moments I guess would be the most accurate term. One of the things I've always liked about Halo 2/3/Reach was that you had these huge open-air levels that are really more like sandboxes, and amazing/creative things would sometimes happen, things you wouldn't see in most console FPSs. Things like Falcon-surfing down from the top of the Spire with the bomb in Invasion, or Nart's Last Action Hero ridicularity. With the exception of Ragnarok (from H3), Halo 4's big maps are really more like small maps repeated a lot. The walls are closed in and vehicles are given less freedom and are basically told "you are a Wraith, and that means you tour the map on this path. Deviate from it at your peril." It is more focused, and it works well for the casual gamer (by "focusing" the action to the normal methods/areas, you're helping the casual player to be more frequently engaged in the fighting in a mode he can understand, hence also the "Press X to Respawn" mechanic). But with less opportunity for awesomeness/creativity, I can see MP getting stale in the future.
