At least Bungie had : the courtesy to give me a reason when they decided to dramatically change : the armor. Anything after that was fiddling with the fine details. : On the brighter side, I don't cringe every time I see that armor now. : Actually I don't have any reaction to it at all. I think my brain has just : decided to ignore it every time it's presented. The only thing that set me : off this time was their quip about each iteration being "distinctive : yet similar" when theirs clearly bares little to no resemblance to : anything before it. This. It's funny how they keep pointing fingers by equating their redesign of the Chief to the changes in Bungie's games. The change from Mark V to Mark VI had a very definite and believable canonical explanation, and the Halo 2 and Halo 3 Mark VI's are basically identical aside from added graphical fidelity and changes in a few details but nothing compared to the changes in Halo 4. Meanwhile, the Halo 4 armor is completely redesigned without a believable explanation and no, nanomachines don't count, especially when 343i seems to be going back-and-forth between the quasi-fictional nanomagic explanation and the "it's just artistic license" seen in the Bulletin. Like you, I'm not nearly as repulsed by the new armor anymore, but I still would've preferred they stuck with a graphically updated (and no, that does not equal "completely redesigned" like 343i seems to maintain) version of the original Mark VI, even if the Chief did gain a new armor later on. On another note, looking at the comparison image, I still like the original Mark V the most. Detail or graphics mean nothing when your design is distinctive enough.
