In Response To: What is "Halo"? (Leviathan) : Hearing the boom of a Scorpion's canon? Every time I see this, my patience for it dwindles even more. As for your question, I think there is no answer. I've wandered the Waypoint forums and seen endless threads about what is destroying Halo or how sprinting doesn't belong in Halo. And honestly, the lack of a BR doesn't make Reach less Halo than its predecessors. You really have to screw up the gameplay to make a game not Halo, which hasn't happened yet. What is Halo? It's a story that compels us, a universe that binds us. Poor writing will do far more damage to Halo than any Title Update... because the TU's impact fades away as more games are released. At the end of the Reclaimer trilogy, we're still going to have redshirt Spartans, Stupid Evil ONI agents, and Dyson Shells anticlimatically transitioning out of Slipspace. That's my take. But Halo is also the community that was built up around it. We've got Halo.Bungie.Org, we've got Rooster Teeth, we've got machinema, fanfiction, fan movies (soon!)... This community sprang up not just because of the story, but because of the gameplay, because of the love that Bungie showed for us all. I hope that can continue.
