In Response To: Re: re: DMR Study Update (new spreadsheet) (Hoovaloov) : Great minds think alike. I actually made a new spreadsheet a few days ago : after thinking about this. This one just takes the top values from the : Pace and Spam Selection columns and does the comparison. This is repeated : 25,000 times. : Method: (+11.5% short /+9.7% medium / +1.1% long)
: I find it fascinating that my method came so close to the true probabilities
Well it should do: the method you just described will now just be sampling from the 625 possibilities. The question you should be asking is: why do you still have error when you've oversampled? :P : If Jonny thinks this is on the low side, maybe we use something like 4
Sure. I don't see anything wrong with that. : No, I goofed that up. I went back and looked at video to determine how it
: Here are the real reset times, listed by how many spam shots came before it:
: 85% Bloom
: Note: Because the max. ROF is unchanged by the TU, the time between spammed
: reset: 15+15+15+15+2 = 62 frames
This part I find very interesting. So if you spam 4 body shots and wait for the reset before the headshot: 100%
Which makes it optimal by 1 frame - lol! Of course we know from the spamming results that even with an expanded reticle you still have a good chance to hit, so you might be able to cut a few frames off that. in 85%
Which means that, in theory, spamming 4 body shots and then going for the headshot is now inferior to resetting after each shot or bursts of two. What I find even more interesting is how these numbers relate to the figures you got in your test. Taking the theoretical time for full reset in each setting your average error was: Close Range
Mid-range
Long-range
So your DMR could use some work Hoov ;) Theres an error of something like 1.5 frames on each of your shots, mean average. Also, as I said before there is some drift in your data for 100% as the range increases but even if you plug the short-range pacing data into long range it doesn't seem to dramatically alter things. If the reticle really resets in just 13 frames after 1 shot in 85%, then there clearly isn't much difference between pacing and spamming now in terms of ROF. I'm definitely more fully understanding now how they meant 85% bloom increases 'consistency'. Opinion time! However, they could have achieved the same goal with a minor ROF nerf - so the bloom would have reset more in between each shot anyway. The DMR was already very good, 85% makes it faster and more reliable and obliterates pacing on the NR altogether. If it was already spammed in close range with success, this makes it even more true and encroaches on the niche of the pistol and the automatic weapons. Conversely, if you nerfed the ROF by even 1 frame the AR and Pistol would have a bit more breathing room, and the DMR would be more consistent. Yeah, that wouldn't please the 'omg reach is so SLOW make if FASTAR!' crowd, but Reach was designed to be slower so more would happen in fights and personally I think it works really well. In 85%, you have far less time to react to DMR and NR attackers so the 'who sees who first wins' applies more and it's not as if they're as hard to use as the Halo 1 pistol - 5 shots are much easier to come by than 3 shots ever were. You get donged from longer ranges more reliably and more quickly too so it pushes combat to longer ranges and closer to cover - which on large maps, is actually anti-speed since everyone is so afraid of stepping out into the open. Hemmorhage* in particular is even more of a death trap in the open and I've found myself clinging to rocks and hiding in the most ridiculous of crannies more than I ever would have with 100% bloom. On the other hand, if you really wanted to punish spamming, bloom should have got larger, more quickly, or the magnetism or possibility curve within the reticle should have been adjusted. Bleh. *btw, who thought it would be a good idea to put only developer made maps in the top voting slot of BTB? God I'm coming to hate that map...
