Heh. "Saw [nanotbots]." I can't think of an instance in any of the Halo games where mentioning nanobots would have been necessary. In fact, if we accept that they were there, it helps explain how Master Chief was able to soak up so much plasma over three games and still have an unbreached suit capable of withstanding zero pressure. Even explains "regenerating health."

The way it was presented in Glasslands was totally a cop-out, though. An off-hand comment made by an ODST - that could be taken as "fact," or it could be taken as an uninformed guess made by a character.

It's certainly possible. Also possible is that, assuming the nanobots exist, Cortana designed the upgrades. She is, after all, a faster version of the woman who designed Mjolnir in the first place. Given what we know, and the possible duration of the cryosleep, it's not that far-fetched.
