I picked H2V rather than normal Halo 2 because H2V already exists, including functional multiplayer, on a modern platform, and has an active, if rather small, community. (Also a tiny, tiny bit because I wouldn't be able to play an Xbox H2A, but that is a very small part of the reason)

They would be okay if they were alongside the MA5B or MA5C. As it is, they replace the MA5B until the sudden appearance of the MA5C in Halo 3 (remember that Halo 3 starts pretty much right after Halo 2 ends)...where they then coexist with the AR. I think it would clear up that gap if they were retconned as ODST-only weapons and MA5K prototypes in Halo 2, which were then replaced with SMGs and MA5Cs in Halo 3...or the units/ships in Halo 3, since they are different to those in Halo 2, were actually issued with the MA5C/SMG combo during Halo 2, and only Cairo Station and the New Mombasa troops received the MA5KX.

It's not important as such, it's just something that's been in Halo since the beginning (like The Siege Of Madrigal). Plus it sounds awesome.

True. Still, I wouldn't put it past 343 to have him wake up with a jetpack and go "a wizard did it"...though that was used more as an example of the kind of thing that shouldn't be done.
