In Response To: This. (+ [mean] comments) (Arithmomaniac)

: Warning, negativity may follow. Sorry

: I enjoyed this, too. But slipping these in in passing without exploring it
: left me feeling like Traviss was just checking off boxes from 343i.

: +1

: I'm almost positive Parangosky has a personal connection to the flash-cloned
: children, which is why Karen kept homing in on it. Parangosky could have
: picked a ton of things to hit Halsey over the head with - why just this
: one? It doesn't seem like enough to send Halsey to hell for.

: [[BEGIN SCREED]]

: Which gets at what really bothered about the book - none of the plot lines
: have a modicum of closure. The shield world holds so much, but all we've
: gotten so far is the Slipspace drives. Paragosky, Naomi and dad, and
: Halsey form some flash-cloning nexus - but we only get the pieces on the
: last page. Halsey herself is struggling with herself, yet we don't even
: get to see her move into hell. The New Insurrection hasn't started -
: they're still doing recon. The Elite civil war starts on the last page.

: I enjoyed the first two-thirds of the book, seeing that it would lead to an
: awesome payoff. Now I have to wait until the next book to get even to the
: rising action. This was supposed to be a novel, not a serial!

: [[END SCREED]]

: Mendez, though, got off too lightly. And the mutual lashing between him and
: Halsey felt out of place.

: [[BEGIN SCREED]]

: And have a dose of humility. From Twitter: Me: Too much character
: self-absorption, no closure, and only a few, half-hearted reveals.
: @karentraviss, Y U DISAPPOINT? #Halo #Glasslands
: I wasn't expecting an answer - if I was, I'd be more polite. But this answer
: is ridiculous:
: Her: @Arithmomaniac Because I write for grownups!

: That, at best, answers one of the three questions. Stop spraying lampposts,
: Traviss.

: [[END SCREED]]

Hah. Yeah. That's another thing I've learned about Karen Traviss from her Star Wars books. She does not take criticism lightly. Look up the 'talifan' scuffle she had with some people. It got pretty ugly (on both sides).

She does respond pretty openly to readers as well. If you send her an email through her site, you will most likely get a personal response.
