In Response To: Couple of things... (GrimBrother One) : Wish I had the time to write more!!! : I mentioned it in another post, but I can't figure out if they were actually
I hadn't considered that. It's very possible, though I immediately took "Installation 03" as an obvious reference to a Halo ring. : They did mention a few things. They talked about great Patriotic wars, I
As far as I recall, the "Great Patriotic War" was actually the Soviet name for WWII, and since I think it was Vaz talking about it, to me it seemed fairly obvious he was referring to the same thing. As for the 2090 thing, yeah, there were references to several wars that occurred between now and 2162, though none of them were named, I think. I'm aware there's a lot of fictional history in the universe itself, but the novel didn't tap into it as much as it could have. Nonetheless, it's just a minor gripe I tend to have with future stories in general and not a serious problem. : Maybe they were trying to avoid drawing too many direct parallels with their
It's possible, though if that's the case, why even use the term "Shipmaster"? Just call him "admiral", "fleet leader" or whatever. : Even our own technology does this though. Within very short periods of time
Yeah - also, given the fact it was an ONI ship, they could've been developing the new drive tech for some time, even during and before the events of the games. : Not sure about the servo point, as I always liked the liquid crystal tech
I never said it wasn't possible, it just seemed like a pointless change. There was nothing in the novel that really necessitated them to establish it as a new generation - no visuals, no radically different technical features. The only thing that was said to be different was that the Mark VII was lighter; the same thing could've been accomplished with an armor variant with changed armor material, especially with 343 consistently emphasizing that the main difference between each MJOLNIR generation is in the underlying electronics package and software, not the armor's outward appearance or armor plating arrangement.
