Yeah, the reflection methods have a ton to do with the aesthetic difference between Halo 1 and the rest of the series. It's actually kind of mind-boggling how absurdly sketchy HCE's system is; for instance, all lights create diffuse lighting, but reflection maps only react to static lighting, which is why things look softer and less shiny when exposed to just the flashlight. And yet, the system is gorgeous. It's ten metric froodlenutzskytons of stylized awesomeness.
