No so much a different name, just a more formal name than HEV. The SOEIV was first mentioned in reference to the ODSTs of Halo 2 on the packaging to that action figure. And that was well before the redesign of the pod's look in ODST. Even Halo 3 had the same pods as 2 but with some decal upgrades.
