Regular Play Arts are smaller. Most of the Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts figures are part of that series. All of the toys based of games more popular in the west (Reach, Metal Gear, Resident Evil) are in the Kai line. They are bigger, cost $20-30 more, and some have complaints about paint choices (Sheva) and proportions(Reach, Bayonetta). The Final Fantasy XIII figures are Kai also, so it seems like they have abandoned the original line.

My only major complaint with the line is that they don't come with swappable heads like a lot of the other pose-able Japanese toys, but that isn't as big of a deal with Halo. I'm still probably only getting the Kat Kai as I don't like the body shape on the men. Don't really like this new MC one, I'll stick with my 12 inch McFarlane release.
