Sigh. I guess it would be too much to ask for 343i to keep their armor designs and marks consistent. Yeah, I know the explanation is that there are lots of variants of each mark that inexplicably appear different in each product 343i puts out, but they could at least have different designations for each of the alleged sub-models.

Still, I don't like this whole explanation because I know they could keep the armor designs consistent if they wanted to. They don't need to make Mark IV or V look different in every product they make. The idea that they're different models has no value in context of the fiction; it's obviously just a hand-waving explanation for uncontrolled artistic license.

I don't mind the occasional specialized armor variant, like what we see in the games; different shoulders, knees or chest and so on. But most of the time, the whole armor set is different just because the artist won't bother checking some references. The main reason I don't like this is the fact it takes away the whole idea of a certain design being definitive or iconic. I doubt people would consider the imagery of Star Wars as iconic if, say, Darth Vader's or the Stormtroopers' armor changed drastically in every movie or ancillary product.
