In Response To: Citation please *NM* (scarab) It's in the Halo Encyclopedia, page 184. "The Librarian witness this attack from outside the Maginot Sphere, effectively trapped beyond the action. She desperately sent word to the Didact, warning her love of the Flood horde that was coming for him. The Librarian remotely destroyed all of the portals and other installations that would to the Ark so that it would not fall into the grasp of the Flood, but this also made it impossible for her to escape. She begged the Didact one final time to fire the Array. He replied that her observation of the Flood armada confirmed the information he'd been searching for - her location." It's later on stated that she buried the Portal on Earth. If the Encyclopedia is correct, this means that there were other Portals on other worlds, but the Librarian chose to remotely destroy these to keep the Flood from getting to the Ark. The Librarian, however, had 'a deep respect for humanity, whom she viewed as "special" among all of the sentient life she had catalogued'. For some reason, this led her to burying her final Portal, the one on Earth, instead of destroying it. Maybe she didn't want to cause any damage to Earth's ecosystem.
