All awful? that's an awful big statement to make. I wouldn't mind knowing what other high quality animation are you're referring to, and what "high end" anime you mean.

People seem to get hung up on the rigidity of characters when talking, or the "cheap" animation style of only animating moving parts, etc. But it doesn't necessarily reflect cheapness, it's more cultural, going back to the wood block paintings that begot the whole art style to begin with.

At least that's what I've been told... That the style is simply orders of progression away from a well animated comic. Which is orders of progression from a very old Japanese method of mass produced art.

What westerners see as "well animated" is cultural. To other cultures awkwardly expressive bodies that bend just slightly unnaturally in constant movement are foreign. To us, it's what we're used to.

Show me a "high quality animation" that pumps out 6-12 hours of content (including music) quite as well as some of these Japanese productions do.
