In Response To: Re: I'm not a lawyer. but... (DeAdLy_cOoKiE) The intent of my original post was to offer a counterpoint to the attitude that software piracy isn't theft (but let's not get back into that, I think we've expressed our opinions). With this dialogue, I just wanted to explore those ideas. I don't hope to "convince" you that I'm correct, your actions and beliefs are your own. I don't think I'll pirate software after better understanding your reasoning, but at least I know more about it. I don't think you'll suddenly start buying more of the software you use, but at least you know more about my point of view. But hey, think about it :) With regard to Microsoft (the "former" party I was referring to), I agree with many of your opinions. They do have unscrupulous business practices, there are problems with their products, and I'm not fond of using their Windows OS and applications as a result. However they are still the best tools for certain jobs, so I use them. FWIW, that dislike does not extend to the actual developers, I know several MS developers who do everything they can, and their Macintosh software is actually quite good. And we can't forget that Halo will itself be a Microsoft product running on Microsoft hardware. All that aside, I still have to pay for what I use (IMHO). As for shareware, I think paying shareware fees is just as important as commercial software. As I understand your view, it's even more important (since you'd be more likely to spend your money to target specific people, and smaller markets require greater user support). You raise an interesting idea about a "new world" but I don't think it would work. Competition drives innovation. Materialism drives production. Such a global economic overhaul would be realisticly impossible, and would provide no benefit to the people making the change. It's a socialist ideal, is it not? (I'm not exactly well read when it comes to geopolitical and economic thoery). It might make a decent backstory to a Science Fiction story, though. -Chappy : Exactly! (What are you trying to say here? What are you tring to achieve?
: OH, I forgot to mention that you could download patches/cracks for those as
: Don't be a frustrated induvidual, give in to it, (Microsoft is ripping
: BTW. I have often thought about a world (A new religion, star trek?), where
