Re: I played halo at E3, my thoughts....

In Response To: I played halo at E3, my thoughts.... (Timothy Wilson)

: Looks fantastic, metal cooridors gleam, waves wash up on the beach , lots of
: detail. This and Project Gotham are the most visually impressive xobx
: games.

: During actual play though, I can 'feel' a good game under here, but the
: controls suck. The controller itself is ok, and great for everything BUT a
: first person shooter. After a bit I got used to walking around and aiming
: on foot, just as if I was playing red-faction on the PS2, same control
: scheme. Anyway, then I got in the jeep. Oh man, this has got to be the
: WORST way to control a vehicle I've ever ever seen. Right analog
: controller rotates the camera. Left is the throttle/brake. So, if you want
: to go left, you rotate the camera left, then the driver eventually decides
: to head in the way you want to go, and starts to turn, when the jeep lines
: up with your view he stops turning.
: It doesn't feel like driving a jeep. More like a large sailboat.

And then later, you wrote (in response to a question):

::(Are you telling me that nothing
:: happens when you push your left stick left or right? And what happens when
:: you push your right stick forwards or back?)
:
: Nothing for either. The camera pitch was locked when in the jeep.

Wow - I would have thought control sucked, too, if this is how it seemed to me.

Left analog stick controlled direction - push it forward, go forward. Push it backward, go backward. Push it left, go left. Push it right, go right.

Right analog stick controlled camera view - left or right, and the camera panned around the jeep. Forward, and the camera pulled off the jeep (panned out). Backward, and the camera dropped behind the jeep (following view, sort of).

I'm pretty sure I was using the same controllers, on the same boxes, as everyone else playing... but they didn't act at ALL as you described them. (For me, at least.)

Any chance a Bungie employee reading this can confirm one or the other control schemes? We're both relying on memory, after all - from a maximum of three days of playing.
