In Response To: I played halo at E3, my thoughts.... (Timothy Wilson) I can't negate your opinion, but as someone who had *never* touched an XBox controller until just a few days ago, I can tell you that I had *no* problem adapting to the controls. There were grumbles about the Y-axis (up-down) being opposite to what was expected, but yes, that can be flipped as well. Anyone that bothered to read the helpful controller mappings right below the tv itself would've seen it. I myself had trouble at first, since I didn't read that note until much later in the week, so I just forced myself to learn it. Now, if I flipped it, I might have to relearn it all over again :) Late in the show Saturday, Hamilton Chu even commented on how impressed he was to see me do some 'circling' around an opposing team member in some of the CTF games Claude and I played. Apparently, that take a certain amount of skill with both thumbs on the controller. Hey, I'm getting good at this! :-) Anyway, my theory as to why they chose the particular default conrol mappings for the jeep is because it matches the regular marine walk/turn controls. In other words, the same stick to turn you as a marine also turns the jeep. Similarly, your forward/backward walking stick/button is your forward/backward driving stick/button. So, by keeping it consistent, you don't force such a sudden shift in what does what on the controller. As for remapping... as any console gamer will tell you, 90% of the console games out there will let you switch thru various different control configurations out there. In other words... duh! :) BTW, I'm resisting the urge to flame epollyon, who continues to act like an ass. - F | |
