In Response To: On the nature of the Compound Mind *very long* (Cthulhu117) :The Compound Mind that commands the Flood isn't contained in the vast, tentacular :corpse-conglomerate we call a gravemind. It's contained in the Flood itself. As long as there is a :single infection form to contain the collective, malevolent intelligence of the Flood, there will be a :Compound Mind, and the single, many-headed organism called the Flood will survive. I think that your theory falls down when it comes to the small parts. One spore could not possibly contain the intelligence of the whole Flood. I doubt one spore contains the intelligence of a combat form. To me spores are mindless. In fact, I've said before, I don't think even Gravemind controls the spores. I reckon spores pick up on signals from command forms which are instructed by the Gravemind. However, your theory has merit - obviously - because it does explain Gravemind's survival. Perhaps there is a carrying capacity for Gravemind. The intelligence is, to my mind, more likely a combination of every brain the Flood controls - artificial and biological, with the entity we think of as the Gravemind a mouthpiece, like you suggested. It seems to me that the most simple explanation is that the Flood's intelligence works like SETI. It links every AI, every computer database, every combat form, ever victim into one great network.
