Elsewise, your theory : don't really stand up do it? Well, there were a couple of high-profile releases between Halo 2 and GoW, but they didn't get played as much online. Games like CoD2 and GRAW never had as many players as Halo 2. Gears was the first game to knock Halo 2 off the top spot, but it only dominated the top spot for half as long. The next #1 XBL game after Gears was Halo 3, and after it is the present title-holder, CoD4. Other than these four games, I can't think of anything else that held the #1 spot for most played XBL game. In any case, while there were a few big games between Halo 2 and Gears, none were popular enough to knock Halo 2 off its throne. Also, my "theory" from last night's post isn't a theory. It's a rant expressing my preference for Halo 3 over, well, anything else the 360 has to offer in terms of competetive multiplayer over XBL. I think the only other 360 games I enjoyed for online MP were Burnout Revenge and CoD2. Of course, for Burnout, I can only play the same tracks so many times before it gets boring and I have to give it a rest for a while, and as for CoD2, its MP component is okay, but it was really no better than Halo IMO.
