...and as a nearly-stupid note, cruise that page's hope site for anything at all you ever want to know about these bits. Blake's poems, Cortana letters, etc are very much over-interpreted there. You'll find tons of cross-referencing and [bla].

Sidenote:
Bungie's About Marathon Page [summary]: "Sorry, Halo and Marathon are two different universes."

You'll see lots of parellels to Halo all over the site, but remember that anything pertaining to Marathon specifically should be kept to Marathon. Think of it more like going into an author's old work to see what they may have been thinking on their new novel. You'll find clues, but not answers.

...and I could go on and on talking about the Cortana letters, but between Marathon.b.o and the search here, you'll find more than you could ever ask for.
