the supermac round fires at a speed which some think is too high compared to the mac gun of a ship but i have thought up of 2 reasons as to why it needs that much speed
1)the supermac gun is in orbit around a planet, there for any round fired from it will need to have enough speed to escape the planets gravity.
2)the supermac is used to defend a planet. no just how close do you want the enemy to be to the planet before you can hit them. Note that when a ship fires a mac round, the farther away the enemy, the less likely you are going to hit the target cause the enemy will have time to move out of the way. in order for the supermac to effectively hit and destroy targets very very far away, the round will have to move much much faster so that even thought the distance is great, the enemy will not have a chance to dodge the round. the distance is the supermac's advatage, cause once the enemy can fire upon the supermac, the supermac is going to need alot of time to move out of the way.
