Just wanted to say that I'm sure you're right--just a typo. You always find them in first-edition books, no matter how many times they've been edited/looked over. And, as you mentioned, having read some of Nylund's other books (Signal to Noise, etc), he seems like the type who would have thought this type of thing through.
