In Response To: Re: UNSC MAC round velocity (Alex Cross) : Well think about...the speed of light (c) is approximately 3.00*10^8
You seem to have somehow confused 'miles per hour' with 'kilometers per second'. The Apollo flights travelled at a maximum of roughly 11 kilometers per second. The 'low' figure is more than one thousand times that speed. Had the Apollo Command, Service, and Lunar modules gone towards the moon at 12,000 kilometers/sec, they would reach it in roughly thirty seconds, and then impact with the force of thirty-five thousand Hiroshima bombs. At 120,000 kilometers per second, it'd be three seconds, and the force of nearly four million(!) Hiroshima bombs. Assuming the larger speed, and the stated 3,000 ton projectile weight, you'd basically have enough firepower to lay waste to entire worlds. Unfortunately, due to simple newtonian physics, this would also cause the Super-MAC to fly backwards and smash into the planet with enough speed to lay waste to it. =) |
