Yes, buuuuuuut... =)

If you look at the smoke created my the ball of flame, you'll notice that the hill is in front of it, implying that the explosion is a ways above the Cov.

Also, the Cov seem to have greenish energy based weapons from what we've seen, and not the type that have that kind of reaction when fired.
