I saw, hence my comment on it being the recoiling shoulder cannon... I was
commenting on the fairly impressive blast of fire apparently dissipitating
before him.

And just what is it launching that blasts like that?

The other Covenant weapon with the green energy trail (you listed as the fuel
rod launcher) would seem to be the one Bungie described as launching a crystal
of energy that lessens in destructive ability the further it flies. In other
words it appears self propelled.

However the heavy launcher appears to be along a different line of tech.
Seeming like taking a human blast propelled weapon to extremes not seen in a
portable weapon. Some kind of portable mortar?
